Justin Barbour is a professional adventurer-explorer, best-selling author, YouTube/Bell Fibe TV filmmaker, and keynote speaker. He specializes in wilderness living and expeditions.
Formerly, he was a physical education and biology school teacher for 5 years (B.ED. B.P.E. from Memorial University of Newfoundland).
In 2023/2024, his 372-day, 4-season, nearly 4000km expedition from northern Quebec to the southernmost point of Newfoundland was supported by The Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS). During the expedition, he carried the RCGS Compass Rose flag, and upon his return, he wrote about the journey for Canadian Geographic.
A 1000km canoe trip across Labrador in 2018 and a 52-day Newfoundland expedition in 2020 were also supported by RCGS. The latter 2020 adventure aired on Canada’s Bell Fibe Satellite TV1 (Channel 1) as a 6-part docuseries in 2021. A documentary he created for YouTube (2022) about retrieving a canoe he had to abandon at freeze-up in Labrador has been watched 3.9 million times. He has delivered keynote presentations about his expeditions in both Canada and the United States, and they have been featured in media outlets such as CBC, CTV News, Canadian Geographic, Men’s Journal, and Paddling Magazine. Man and Dog: Through the Newfoundland Wilderness (2019) is his bestselling memoir, and he collaborated with author Marie-Beth Wright to create the all-ages illustrated book Saku’s Great Newfoundland Adventure (2019), which aims to inspire the youth to embrace nature.

Justin is a provincial Herder Champion (Newfoundland Men’s Senior AAA Hockey) and a provincial Men’s AAA Ball Hockey Champion. He has represented Newfoundland at men’s national ice and ball hockey tournaments.

YOUTUBE CHANNEL BIO (www.youtube.com/justinbarbournlexplorer) :

I’m an adventurer, explorer, filmmaker and author who believes life is better outdoors. The channel documents my adventures and expeditions in the wilderness.

I prefer self-propelled movement. Hike, paddle, ski, snowshoe, claw. Whatever moves me by my own steam. My notable expeditions include a 4000km, 4-season, continuous crossing of Northern Quebec, Labrador & Newfoundland (by canoe/foot), 1000km across Labrador (canoe) and 700km across my home of Newfoundland (foot/packraft).

I fish, forage & hunt. This is camping, survival & bushcraft. Long challenging expeditions & also shorter relaxed tours. My dogs are usually along for the ride. And they carry their own weight. My mission is to inspire others to utilize, appreciate and respect all nature offers. Maybe even light a fire in some bellies to step a little outside a comfort zone & dare to live a dream.

Honestly, I’m just a simple kinda guy who loves nature.

Witness its beauty and live the outdoor life through my lens.
